This weekend has been one of the most inspiring of my career. Last Sunday 11th March I've been surrounded by the newest, most successful and biggest Graphic Designers and Illustrators from Europe and maybe the world as Von, Obey, Sagmeister, Beirut and so on.
OFFSET 2012 in Dublin at the Gran Canal Theatre host a precious American Typographer and Illustrator named Jessica Hische whom has been made a great impression on me. She gave on Sunday morning this very inspiring conference.
To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect about it, I haven't heard about her before but I have to say that I was happily surprised, in just one hour she was able to motivate me and make me rethink my old and some of the new projects.
First thing I did was to check all my art material, leaving aside those that wasn't really appealing for me. My career it's been influenced mainly influenced by Spanish artist
, more than I thought, I didn't relised until I came to Dublin how big was their contribution.Velazquez and Sorolla with their vision of light, Bosch with his compositions, Le Broquy and the appliance of the colour, Alma Tadema with his Romanticism and so on.
Coming from a very artistic family it let me to explore different medias like painting, sculpture, and especially photography. I'll consider myself a very visual person as well as expressive something that you can notice in my art pieces in a very conceptual perspective.
One of the points that all the artist at OFFSET agreed it was innovation, you have to follow your own path, the one in where you feel more inspired and satisfied. Jessica Hische with the brilliant expression of PROCRASTIWORKING. Use your spare time on your personal projects, they will probably guide you on your work projects bringing you a fresh perspective. Also the Irish artist were just outstanding, it was great to being able to listen to artist like Conor Harrington, Johnny Kelly or Richar Gilligan.
I'll leave you here some of the speakers at OFFSET 2012, it worth have a look :)
